Paonta Sahib MLA is Kirnesh Jung. He won as an Independent candidate. He is son of Shri Jagdeep Singh. He was born on 12 July, 1957 at Gangu-Wala, Distt. Sirmour. He is married to Smt. Malini Jung.

Constituency Represented

Paonta Sahib is a small industrial town in the south of Sirmour district in the state. National Highway-72 goes through this town. It is an important religious spot for Sikhs. Major industries are cement production (Cement Corporation of India, Rajban), power generation and renewable energy, pharmaceuticals Sun Pharmaceutical industries LimitedMankind Pharma LimitedZee Laboratories Limited), textiles (Malwa cotton and spinning mills of Oswal group), chemicals and food. Some of the major Hotels and Resorts to stay there are Hotel Guru Surbhi, Hotel Yamuna, The city has a large Gurdwara, named Gurdwara Paonta Sahib, on the banks of the river Yamuna. The river is the boundary between the states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Political Standing

Kirnesh Jung was elected the MLA from this Vidhan Sabha seat in the elections held in 2012. He won by a margin of 790 votes. Sukh Ram of Bharatiya Janata Party was the trailing candidate.
