“It is health that is the real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver”. – Mahatma Gandhi

On 7 April every year, World Health Day is celebrated to mark the anniversary of the founding of WHO in 1948 and disseminate knowledge and awareness about human health AND has chosen food safety as the theme for the year.

1. Buy quality food, fresh food from reliable suppliers with clean premises.

2. Cleanliness is a must.

3. Wash kitchen cloth towels daily with soap and hot water and dry them before using. Damp and dirty towels are breeding grounds for harmful bacteria.

4. Store food correctly. Do not leave cooked food at room temperature for more than two hours.

5. Cook food immediately after thawing.

6. Cook food thoroughly to kill germs.

7. If you are not sure about the quality of the drinking water, boil water for at least 5 minutes.

8. Always wash hands with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds before and after handling food. Dry with a paper towel or clean cloth.

9. Do not cook if you are suffering from respiratory illness.

10.If you are unsure of how long your leftovers have been in the refrigerator, do not eat that food.
