Singer Mika, who was caught on camera slapping a doctor onstage during a live performance, defended himself claiming the guy was drunk and causing disruption.
An FIR has been lodged against the Jumme ki raat hitmaker here by Shrikant, an ophthalmologist posted at Ambedkar Hospital. He suffered internal injury inside his left ear due to the slap.
The video of the incident, which took place on Saturday night at the event organised by Delhi Ophthalmological Society, has been doing the rounds on the internet.
“Whenever men dance, kids and women get pushed behind so I was trying to get women in the front and men behind them. He (doctor) was drunk and did not listen to me though I kept telling him to move aside and let others enjoy. He abused me, showed me the middle finger,” Mika told a news channel.
The doctor, meanwhile, said it was the singer who was abusive.
He said the singer wanted him to move aside even when there was enough space for others to dance. When he did not agree, Mika’s bouncers took him on the stage and the singer slapped him.
The incident took place on Saturday evening at a concert organised by the Delhi Ophthalmological Society (DOS) as a part of their three-day conference being held at the Delhi Pusa Institute Mela Ground in Inderpuri.
“While performing, Mika had called some of the audience on stage for an activity. During the activity, something done by the doctor irked Mika who then slapped him and handed him to the bouncers,” said a police official.
Shrikant’s colleagues reportedly created a ruckus at the venue soon after the incident, leading to intervention by the police.
