Bit By Co-passenger

The flight was diverted to Cork when the captain declared a “medical emergency”. According to an RTE report, the man became unwell and then fell unconscious after being restrained on the flight.

The pilot told controllers that there was a passenger “running amok” and that he had “injured one or two passengers.”

Crew members later told controllers that a doctor on board was treating the passenger, but that the man no longer had a pulse.

The captain diverted the flight to Cork, about 150 miles southwest of Dublin, where it landed shortly after 5:30 p.m. local time. The man was pronounced dead on board the airplane. He’d been flying unaccompanied and was believed to be studying in Ireland.

Some 170 passengers and crew members were taken from the plane and interviewed by Gardaí about the incident.

Gardaí in Togher, Co Cork are investigating the incident.
