Shimla, Aug 21: Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said police officers need to be more sensitive to the security needs of women and protect the poor and the weaker section of society. Addressing the gathering at a function where 183 policemen passed out at training centre at Junga, near here, today, he said they should feel proud to be a part of the state police family. “I hope that tough training will help them to be a true professional to meet the responsibilities”, he added.

The Chief Minister said the state government had sanctioned 1,073 posts of constable and the recruitment process was underway. He advised the cadets who passed out to be more practical and professional for maintaining law and order and exercise patience while dealing with the people. “It becomes your duty to deal people with endurance and effectiveness and bring criminals to book”, said the Chief Minister.

He announced a sum of Rs 30 lakh for overall fencing of police ground Junga, besides sum of Rs 10 lakh for furnishing newly constructed administrative block of the 1st battalion of HP Armed Police (HPAP), Junga, which he inaugurated today. He said a sum of Rs 40 crore was being spent on construction of residential and non-residential buildings of police during this fiscal. Besides, a sum of Rs 5.42 crore had been sanctioned for modernisation of police infrastructure.

Earlier, the Chief Minister took salute from an impressive march past presented by the participants. Constable Ajay Sharma led the parade while constable Anil Kumar was his co-partner.Speaking on the occasion, Director General of Police Somesh Goyal emphasised on professionalism, discipline and good behaviour.
