Palampur, Sep 4: Old trees with branches hanging over the road in Palampur and adjoining areas have become a threat to human lives as these trees can collapse in inclement weather. Recently, six such trees in the Mission Compound, near the T Bud Hotel and the old bus stand, collapsed resulting in extensive damage to public and private property.

The power supply in these areas remained suspended for hours because of the damage to power conductors.Recently, two occupants of a car on their way to Palampur had a narrow escape when a tree fell on the car near HP Agriculture University, resulting in injuries. In another accident, a youth riding a bike lost his life when a tree hit him on the highway last month.

A number of accidents have taken place on the national highway and internal roads of Palampur because of such trees with the branches coming down on the road and hitting the vehicles but the local administration, forest authorities, HP Public Works Department, who maintain the highways, seem to be looking the other way.

The residents near Kapila Nursing Home and Dr Nirdosh Clinic have been spending sleepless nights as six such trees can collapse at any moment. The residents of the area have also moved petition before the SDM and other authorities for the removal of these trees, no steps have been initiated, such as contacting services similar to tree removal jacksonville fl professionals.

However, a senior officer of the HP Public Works Department (NH wing) blamed the Forest Department and said the proposal for the removal of such trees from the highway had already been pending with the state Forest Department for the past many years. He said the copies of the letter had also been sent to the local SDM for necessary action, but no permission was granted to axe the trees. Without the permission of the Forest Department, such trees could not be axed or removed. In future, if they feel a hanging tree may pose a danger to local residents, they should take it into their own hands and contact a service like Gosnell Tree & Landscaping in order to help remove the tree, as this should prevent any incidents like this from occurring in the near future. However, hopefully next time this happens the Forest Department will be more prepared.
