Shimla, June 1: Even as the CPM has named 11 candidates for the June 16 municipal polls, the Congress seemed to have kept it free-for-all for its workers as the party is neither showing any seriousness, nor is willing to name its candidates. The elections are fought without any party symbol.

Mayor Sanjay Chauhan and Deputy Mayor Tikender Panwar said the CPM had named 11 candidates for 11 wards and they would fight rest of the wards with the help of a joint front of eminent citizens and social activists.“From day one, we have raised the issue that the elections should be held directly for the posts of mayor and deputy mayor on the party symbols and each voter should be enrolled in the voters list in which the Congress government has failed,” they claimed.

While the BJP has been daring the Congress to hold MC elections on party symbols, the Congress seemed to have kept it free for all as the party is yet to come out from the Virbhadra-Sukhu tussle on the issue of the PCC leadership The Congress is in no serious mood to announce its candidates as a part of its strategy while the BJP wants to wrest the MC from the Congress and the CPM, revealed Congress insiders.

State spokesperson Naresh Chauhan said the party and the government would decide the matter in day or two.
