Run-up to HP polls: BJP prepares blueprint of programmes

Shima, July 29: The Himachal Pradesh BJP today prepared a blueprint of programmes and campaigns it would hold in the run-up to the state assembly elections, which is likely to be held later this year. The BJP’s state office bearers met here on the eve of the party’s state executive meeting and reviewed its various activities in the state.

The proposed programmes of the party would be discussed at state executive meeting and all out efforts to oust the Congress government will be made, state BJP chief Satpal Singh Satti said. Party officials said the state BJP will focus of the alleged mafia raj and poor law and order situation in the state.

On Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh’s statement that he would lead the Congress in the upcoming elections, Satti said his party was heading for a victory in the polls and in case Singh remains the leader, the BJP would win with a massive majority.

The victory of the party in the Shimla Municipal Corporation polls, and the Bhoranj and Sujanpur bye-elections are indicators of BJP’s growing support, he claimed. Satti asked workers not to become complacent and work hard for bringing the party back to power in Himachal Pradesh. Leader of Opposition P K Dhumal claimed that the people of the state were “fed up” with mafia raj, bad governance and corruption, and were waiting for an opportunity to express their anger.

He alleged that law and order had collapsed in the state the government was shielding the culprits. “The schoolgirl rape and murder case, the mysterious death of a forest guard and several other incidents of heinous crimes are a sad commentary on the functioning of the government. The BJP would expose the misdeeds of the present dispensation,” he said.

Hailing the formation of an NDA government in Bihar, the state BJP chief said the BJP-JD(U) combination is a “holy alliance” and chief minister Nitish Kumar had parted ways with RJD chief Lalu Yadav on issues of corruption.

The Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee accused the BJP of politicising the schoolgirl rape and murder case and vitiating the peaceful atmosphere by organising protests and inciting violence. “The case has already been handed over to the CBI and investigations are in progress. But the BJP is trying to derive political mileage,” senior Congress leaders said in a joint statement.
