BJP Will Win With Three-Fourths Majority, Says Shanta Kumar

Shimla May, 9: BJP MP from Kangra Shanta Kumar said on Monday that the BJP would win with three-fourths majority in the forthcoming Assembly elections in the state. While addressing a press conference here today, Shanta Kumar said the BJP won maximum seats in the Himachal Vidhan Sabha in 1990. “In the forthcoming elections, the party is likely to break that record,” he said.

While responding to a query from media persons, he said the state government was responsible for the delay in the construction of Central University Himachal Pradesh (CUHP). The Centre had given its nod to the dual campus theory and approved the land allotted by the state government at Jadrangal in the Dharamsala Assembly constituency and Dehra for the construction of CUHP campus.

The land at Jadrangal was a forest land and the case for its conversion for other purpose as for the construction of CUHP campus had to be prepared by the state Forest Department. It was a matter of shame that the state had not been able to provide land for the project for the last seven years, he said.

Shanta said the state government should now expedite the process of handing over the land to Baba Ramdev’s institution. “In case the BJP government is voted to power in the state, we will urge Baba Ramdev to set up his industries in the state so that herb and fruit producers in the state can get benefitted,” he added.

The BJP government would also introduce yoga as a subject in schools across the state. Yoga teachers were already been trained at Kaya Kalp centre in Palampur, he said. On infighting and factionalism in the BJP, Shanta said now there were no factions and all leaders would work together to bring the party back to power in the state.

When asked about the increased numbers of ticket aspirants for the forthcoming elections, he said since the party was expected to win elections naturally, there would be more aspirants. However, everything would be settled once the tickets were announced, he added.
