5 Sigiriya

That means ‘lion stone’ in local language. You will find an ancient fortress made out of rock here. Check out the fresco paintings in this fort, which are similar to Ajanta caves. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is also called the fortress in the sky by some. You cannot miss the lion statue at the entrance.

4 Kandy

Visit this hamlet for traditional arts and crafts if you want to have a look at the local market. And if you want to buy genuine gemstones, then keep some time in hand. You must visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, which dates back to the 4th century. In this temple the original tooth of Buddha is kept.

3 Nuwara Eliya

It is commonly called ‘Little England’. The area is surrounded by hills, waterfalls, mountains and tea plantations. The air is the coldest here on the entire island. You can also see buildings that date back to the British empire here.

2 Kitulgala

This is a small town close to the Kelani river. You have massive rain forests here and local restaurant that serve authentic Sri Lankan food. Many Hollywood and Bollywood movies have been shot here.

1 Colombo

The capital of Sri Lanka is located at a strategic location and the sea front makes it very popular among tourists. You get all the works here, be it business, food or entertainment. The capital also has a lot of British heritage remains.
