Getting Married To An NRI? Follow These Guidelines First!

0

Dreaming of a good life is what everyone desires. In India, especially in Punjab it is more in trend for parents to marry their daughters overseas.

But today, we all know that these marriages end up with so many problems. The main reason is that the couple and the families are taking cross-checking too much for granted, both before and after the marriage. I know this because I belong to a Punjabi family where these problems and issues are common for girls getting married to an NRI.

For an NRI marriage to not end up in a nightmare for the girl, Khurki enlists some tips to be borne in mind before deciding on an NRI match for your daughter.

10 Don’t rely on match-making online services

Putting all our faith on online services would be foolish. People tend to lie and provide wrong exaggerated information. Even if you initiate a contact online, make sure to do your own investigation and ask the right questions.

9  Don’t just marry for NRI status

Punjabi families go for an NRI blindly – purely for a better life and for that coveted NRI status. And, that’s where the problem really starts. Don’t marry the NRI status, but to the person of YOUR choice.

8 Meet before taking THE decision!

Gone are the days when you didn’t get to know much about your partner. But today, you can know as much as you want – at least until you feel comfortable for helping you take a decision.

7  Ask questions and ask loads of them

Try to understand what the other side is looking for. And, if it is matching your requirement – then say YES!!

6 Talk about your concern & expectations

Share your expectations with him about the future life together. Be honest and clear. It will help you both in the long run!

5 Only fools rush in, so don’t!

Do not let anybody rush you in. Marriage is one of the most important decisions of your life. So, choose it wisely not half-heartedly or forcibly under any pressure.

4 Don’t be judgmental

Consider all facts before making a judgement. Give the other side a chance to explain or clarify. Perfection is good, but rarely found.

3 Be prepared for compromises

Adapting to a change is part of life. Make sure that compromises you are expected to make are something that you can easily live with for the rest of your life.

2 Verify every thing about NRI’s claim

While it is impossible to fly to the place of settlement of the NRI-in-question, but with the help of your friends & relatives DO verify claims from the other side. It’s very-very important to know the truth and reality.

1 Say NO if it’s not working your way

If there is no chemistry or in case of other conflicts, avoid further persuasions. Just walk away and say NO.
