If the theories of Hinduism are to be believed, God has been to our planet in different forms and times.

As per Hinduism, the god of preservation Lord Vishnu descends on earth every time the unrighteous overpower the world. To maintain the cosmic order, God has taken different avatars and helped His creation survive and grow. No wonders, he is considered the God of preservation.

Even in Bhagavad Gita, it is mentioned in one of the verses that God incarnates and comes to earth in order to put on the path of what is right and is of God.

1 Matsya

Fish that rescues Veda, plants and animals. One of the ten avatars of Vishnu that appeared in the Satya Yuga.

2 Kurma

Tortoise that supports the churn of the ocean to obtain treasures dissolved in the ocean of milk. One of the ten avatars of Vishnu that appeared in the Satya Yuga.

3 Varaha

Boar that raised the earth from the bottom of the sea. One of the ten avatars of Vishnu that appeared in the Satya Yuga.

4 Narasimha

Man-lion who defies classification and overpowers mortals who seek to outwit death. One of the ten avatars of Vishnu that appeared in the Satya Yuga.

5 Vamana

Dwarf who claims the sky from the gods and buries the demons in the underbelly of the earth. One of the ten avatars of Vishnu that appeared in the Treta Yuga.

6 Parasurama

Priest who turns to violence to kill unrighteous kings and unchaste women. One of the ten avatars of Vishnu that appeared in the Treta Yuga.

7 Rama

King who upholds old rules at the cost of personal life. One of the ten avatars of Vishnu that appeared in the Treta Yuga.

8 Krishna

Cowherd/charioteer/statesman who shrewdly changed rules. One of the ten avatars of Vishnu that appeared in the Dwapara Yuga.

9 Balarama/Buddha


One of the ten avatars of Vishnu that appeared in the Dwapara Yuga. In many versions of the mythology, the ninth incarnation is often mentioned as Lord Buddha.

10 Kalki

The last incarnation of Vishnu who is expected to appear at the end of Kali Yuga, the time period in which we currently exist, to rid the world of the oppression of its unrighteous rulers.
