Rs 29.50 cr budget okayed for Tanda medical college

Shimla, July 29: The governing council of Rogi Kalayan Samiti (RKS) of Dr RP Government Medical College, Tanda, approved the budget of Rs 29.50 crore for the current financial year, besides Rs 1.50 crore were earmarked for the maintenance of the college. Health Minister Kaul Singh Thakur, who chaired the RKS Governing Council meeting, said this while addressing mediapersons at Tanda. He said the Himachal Pradesh government was contemplating to develop health tourism facilities in the state. He said in the hill state, good health facilities were available to the people on minimum expenses so Himachal was a congenial destination for health tourism.

GS Bali, Transport and Technical Education Minister, was also present at the meeting.The Health Minister said the government had decided to fill 2,000 posts of the para-medical staff in the Health Department and vacant posts would be filled up shortly. He said DRPGM College, Tanda, was being developed as a super-specialty hospital and for its maintenance Rs 1 crore had been sanctioned and Rs 50 lakh were sanctioned for the upkeep of electricity.He said under the “Janani Sehsu Suraksha Yojna” 7,728 children were treated free at Tanda medical college last year and Rs 41 lakh were spent on the project. He said 5,669 other patients were treated free and even cancer patients were treated free at the hospital.

Bali stressed on providing quality food to patients and attendants. He also stressed on strengthening the basic infrastructure and maintaining sanitation and hygiene at the hospital. He stressed on the RKS to create its own resources for the maintenance of the hospital. In the approved budget, Rs. 6.11 crore was earmarked for medicines to be given free to the poor and needy patients. The Health Minister said Rs. 3.90 crore had been sanctioned for the “Janani Sehsu Suraksha Yojna” for pregnant women and newborns up to the age of one year. Rs 540 lakh was sanctioned for the treatment of children.Principal Dr Ramesh Bharti welcomed the members of the governing council.
