PGI team inspects land for satellite hospital in Una

Shimla, July 25: A team of experts from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI), Chandigarh, visited Una to inspect land for the construction of the proposed satellite hospital here. The facility was announced by Union Health Minister JP Nadda during his Una visit on June 3.

As per announcement, the estimated Rs 320-crore hospital will have 300 beds and will be constructed on 25 acres.It will have the services of 125 specialists in the in-patient department, besides a separate team of doctors and support staff in the out-patient department.The team, led by Dr D Behera, Professor in-charge engineering, was shown vacant land in Malahat village adjoining the city.

The land is adjacent to the Una-Chandigarh highway.Una SDM Prithi Pal Singh, who accompanied the team, said there was availability of land in addition to the proposed 25 acres at the site, which can also be allocated to the PGI, if needed.Dr Behera said he would submit the report to his superiors for further action. The other members of the team included Dr Arunaloke Chakrabarti (Microbiology), Dr Vipin Koushal (Hospital Administration), Sudhir Sharma (Senior Administrative Officer), Praveen Kumar (Hospital Engineer) and Trisha Chaudhary (Architect). As per Nadda’s announcement, the hospital will be handed over to the public within 30 months of land allocation in the name of the PGI.
