Shimla, July 29:  “Himachal has best treatment facilities with low costs giving it the advantage of having much potential to develop medical tourism in Himachal,” Kaul Singh Thakur, minister for health said. He was presiding over the Rogi Kalyan Smiti meeting at RP Tanda Medical College, Kangra.

The minister disclosed that the government has decided to fill up post of 2000 para-medical staff for  providing better facilities to the patients. He asked the medical colleges management to recommend the cases of temporary employees, who have been working in the institution  for 10 years now to the state government for approval to regularize their jobs to permanent ones.

The institution is now providing free treatment to cancer patients, said Kaul Singh.

Transport minister G S Bali, who was also present at the meeting said, “the state government was working hard to get RP Medical College Tanda counted among the best  medical institutions of North India.” He said that the government was regularly providing all modern medical equipments to the institution.

The meeting as informed that Rs 41 lakh was spent on 7,728 cases of Shishu Suraksha Yojna, and 5,669 patients had been given free treatment in different by the Rogi Kalyan Smiti. It was also disclosed that Rs 11.55 crore was available with the institution for free treatment of poor and the needy patients.

The Smiti approved a Rs 29.50 Crore budget for 2017-18.

Dr Ramesh Bharti, Principal, RP Medical College, Dr Yukti Dhar Sharma, superintendent RPMC, ADC Kangra K K Saroach, Ms Suman Verma President MC Kangra among others were also present in the meeting.
