Profile

Govind Singh Thakur is MLA from Manali. He is associated with Bharatiya Janata Party. He is the son of Shri Kunj Lal Thakur (Ex-Minister, Himachal Pradesh). He was born on 3rd October 1968 at Kanyal village, Tehsil Manali, Distt. Kullu. He graduated in the year 1988 from Govt. College Kullu. He is married to Smt. Rajni Thakur.

Constituency Represented

Manali is a hill station nestled in the mountains near the northern end of the Kullu Valley, at an altitude of 2,050 metres in the Beas River Valley. It is located in Kullu district, about 270 km north of Shimla. The small town, with a population of 8,096, is the beginning of an ancient trade route to Ladakh and from there over the Karakoram Pass on to Yarkand and Khotan in the Tarim Basin. It is a popular tourist destination and serves as the roadway to other northern hill stations.

Political Standing

Govind Singh Thakur was elected as MLA from this Vidhan Sabha seat in the elections held in 2012. He won by a margin of 3198 votes. Bhuvneshwar Gaur of Indian National Congress was the trailing candidate.
