More Heavy Rains For Himachal, Uttarakhand; Landslide Threat Persists

Shimla, Aug 8: Heavy rains have continued to wreak havoc in the hilly state of North India, particularly in in the scenic Himachal Pradesh and mesmerizing Uttarakhand. Incidents of cloud bursts and landslides are still continuing in these regions, thereby claiming lives almost each day.

The Parwanoo-Shimla highway also suffered the incident of landslides that has disrupted road and rail traffic. Hundreds of people were stranded on the highways that took almost 10 hours to clear up on Saturday. In fact, in a recent incident, four children were reported dead due to heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh wherein several houses have been devastated including the uprooting of several trees.

Landslides blocked the road Chakkimorh, Jabli and Sanwara yesterday as well. Moreover, the Kalka-Shimla train route was also affected due to landslide debris in Koti and Sanwara.

Skymet Weather had already predicted heavy to isolated very heavy rains for both parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Moreover, the situation is likely to deteriorate further with predictions of more moderate to heavy spells.

In fact, rains have even occurred in the last 24 hours and within the span of 08:30 am on Sunday, Dharamsala recorded a very heavy three-digit rainfall to the tune of 124.6 mm, Pantnagar 34 mm, Solan 12.2 mm, Una 12.4 mm, Shimla 1.4 mm, and Nainital witnessed some light traces.
