Employees Welfare Govt’s Priority: Virbhadra Singh

Shimla May, 9: Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on Monday tried to woo contract employees and PTA teachers. The Chief Minister addressed contract employees at Ice skating Rink and the PTA teachers with functions organised by their respective unions. Both contract employee and PTA unions gave credit to the Chief Minister and his son Vikramaditya Singh for reducing the tenure of contract staff to three years from five years and regularising the services of PTA teachers. Employee welfare is hugely important, for example making sure everyone has the correct breaks (you can visit Deputy.com for their scheduling software to help with this), as it keeps morale and productivity high.

Addressing the contract employees union function, the Chief Minister said the state government was giving priority to the welfare of every section of employees as they are a backbone of the government. “I have always been pro-employee, pro-labour and for the upkeep and welfare of poor and vulnerable section of society”, he said.

Hinting at the outsourced employees, Virbhadra Singh said the government would soon formulate a policy for employees, who had been left out. He said that they would be regularized in three years time and would enjoy one day casual leave after putting one month of service, 10 days medical leave and five days special leave, while a female contract appointee with less than two surviving children would be granted maternity leave for 135 days.

Taking a dig at his detractors, Virbhadra Singh said all Congress MLAs, except a few, supported the decision. “If I had more resources, I would have done more for my employees”, he said.

IPH Minister Vidya Stokes said the government had provided financial benefits of around Rs 2,455 crore to the employees and a sum of Rs 910 crore to the pensioners during the present regime. The grade pay of contract employees has been enhanced by 75 per cent. Youth Congress chief Vikramaditya Singh congratulated the contract employees union and the PTA union saying the both issues were also taken up by the Youth Congress. The employees should support Congress in the coming Assembly elections and government should seriously consider a policy for outsourced employees and left-out PTA teachers.
