Himachal Pradesh: Kullu 7th cleanest district of country

Shimla, Aug 28: Kullu Deputy Commissioner Yunus Khan said Kullu district was ranked the seventh cleanest district in the country under the Swachh Bharat Mission in a recent ranking released by the Union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation. He said online data related to various parameters and components was updated regularly and the ranking was updated by the ministry accordingly.

The ministry had given Kullu district the first place in Himachal Pradesh and efforts were being made to take this district on the top of the list in cleanliness in the country, he said.The Deputy Commissioner said the ministry had given this place to Kullu district based on toilet construction, solid and liquid waste management and all other standards under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

He congratulated the residents of the district and commended the efforts of officers and employees of district rural development agency, all BDOs, panchayat employees and public representatives for the feat.He said the people of the district contributed to the successful implementation of the Clean India Mission with positive thinking.

The Deputy Commissioner said toilets had been constructed in all houses of Kullu district under the mission and the district was announced open defecation-free on October 2, 2016.He said masses would be encouraged and made aware about hygiene and cleanliness so that progress could be made in improving the ranking further.

Public toilets had been set up in 117 important public places, especially tourist places, he said, adding that special emphasis was being laid on solid and liquid waste management in the municipal areas and village panchayats.

The Deputy Commissioner said so far the project of solid and liquid waste management had been approved for 105 panchayats of the district.The project would be implemented in different phases in the remaining 99 panchayats as well.The Deputy Commissioner has urged all residents to pursue the cleanliness campaign and to keep the district clean.
