Finally, Birds Have The Right To Fly Free

The Delhi High Court in a historic judgment has stated that – birds cannot be kept in cages.

The court has passed a judgment that running a bird trade was a violation of the rights of the birds.

Justice Manmohan Singh was shocked at the state of birds in our country. He expressed his anguish by saying that instead of allowing them to fly free they are locked in cages, exported to foreign lands, without any food, water or medical aid.

Birds might not have a voice, but this judgment will surely protect their fundamental right to fly free. Their palace is not in cages nor are they commodities for business.

These observations were made on a plea filed by the NGO People for Animals, which had wanted to challenge the base of birds into the custody of owners who had caged them in the first place.

We hope like all other significant cases in this country, the judgment is not challenged in a higher court and justice is not delayed or stalled.

Already house sparrows, eagles and crows have become a rare sight. This judgment will benefit innumerable small-feathered creatures who are caged, tortured and forced to live a terrible life.

Birds were meant to fly free, and that’s the end of it.
