Una, July 11: BJP workers yesterday carried out a unique protest at Bathu village of Haroli Assembly constituency. The BJP workers led by a local leader Ram Kumar Sharma tied buffalos and cows in worker hostel constructed by the Department of Industries. The BJP workers also raised slogans against the present government.
Ram Kumar Sharma said that it was a symbolic protest against wastage of public funds in Haroli Assembly constituency. A worker hostel constructed at a cost of about Rs 10 crores was inaugurated by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh in Bathu village about two years ago. However, since then it has remained unoccupied. Government funds have been wasted by constructing the hostel. The hostel has been constructed in Bathu village just to satisfy the whims of the industry minister and the building has now started decaying. Wild growth has taken over the compound of the building, he alleged.
Ram Kumar further alleged that as if this was not enough two other such hostels have been constructed in Haroli Assembly constituency. As per my information, about Rs 70 crores has been spent on construction of buildings in Haroli Assembly that have not been put to any use. The construction of these buildings was a criminal wastage of public funds.
Ram Kumar also demanded a probe into distribution of washing machines and other articles in Haroli Assembly constituency. He alleged that washing machines had been distributed among a few Congressmen. The funds with which washing machines were distributed were meant for the welfare of construction workers. Investigation should be ordered to unearth the fact if people to whom washing machines have been distributed ever worked as construction workers, he demanded.
